Personal humility is at the root of justice and mercy. We cannot work towards justice or equity without humility.
In the world, humility is often mistaken for weakness or low self-esteem. Just sit in a room with a group of teenage boys and listen to their initial reactions when you tell them to turn the other cheek or to not be self prompting and prideful. Our faith is counter-cultural and humility is one of the most difficult attitudes to accept when you are bombarded by messages of pride, strength, and self-sufficiency. Remember what Jesus says in Matthew 11:29, ‘learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Humility does not come naturally so here are some intentional attitudes and actions to practice:
- Acknowledge that we are not in charge but God is,
- Understand that He is present and with you always,
- Pray for a humble heart,
- Serve others,
- Pay more attention to your own faults than to the flaws of others,
Act unCUFFED we understand that walking is an action, we strive to be intentional to walk humbly with Him everyday. Personal humility is at the root of justice and mercy. We cannot work towards justice or equity without humility.
